3T Software Labs integrates with Hackolade to make Data Modernization projects easier

Simplifies database migration processes for developers moving from SQL to MongoDB and back again

BERLIN, GERMANY: 1st September 2021 – 3T Software Labs, the independent MongoDB tools company, announced that it has expanded its database management functionality with new data migration and modernization support tools. With Studio 3T 2021.6, this makes it easier to take SQL-compatible data and move that to MongoDB. The new service integrates with Hackolade to make managing data migration easier from multiple databases.

By integrating Hackolade’s powerful cross-platform database data modelling, automated denormalization technology and lineage tracking to the Studio 3T migration process, developers can take their existing data models and turn them into mappings that can be used to migrate over. After designing the Hackolade data model with the Data Definition Language from their SQL database, developers can then quickly import that same model and complete their configurations effectively and easily.

“Making it easier to migrate from SQL systems to MongoDB helps developers be more productive. With the latest version of Studio 3T, developers can move faster and more securely to MongoDB, knowing exactly how the data is mapped.” commented Graham Thomson, CTO and Co-Founder, 3T Software.

“This kind of tooling integration between 3T and Hackolade was developed due to strong and urgent customer demand. This comes as organizations realize that the old relational paradigm of data management is not fit for modern data loads. Studio 3T and Hackolade together make it simple and fast to move off legacy SQL systems of all types and onto the modern database platform of MongoDB,” commented Oliver Pearce, AVP of Global Partner Programs, MongoDB.

3T Software Labs customer Rand Nix, IT Director at W.I.S., when faced with migrating ten years of legacy SQL data into MongoDB Atlas, chose Studio 3T. “Studio 3T just does it so perfectly. I mean, I could not imagine trying to do it myself by hand… If it hadn’t been for Studio 3T, I probably would’ve just left it all in the SQL database,” he said.

Pascal Desmarets, Founder & CEO, Hackolade, commented on the partnering of the two products: “Modernizing applications and moving databases to the Cloud is often harder than anticipated.  Studio3T and Hackolade have been complementary tools for years, with Studio3T providing execution capabilities for designs created in Hackolade.  We’re thrilled to have joined the expertise of our engineering teams to facilitate successful application modernization on MongoDB Atlas for our common customers. ”

The new version of Studio 3T supports the following workflows:

  • SQL Import allows the simple migration of tables into MongoDB collections and is ideal for uncomplicated bulk data transfer.
  • SQL Export allows MongoDB queries and aggregations to be exported into a portable SQL format, ready for uploading into SQL databases.
  • SQL to MongoDB Migration lets developers create multi-table mappings of data which can be used to create optimal MongoDB documents, remaking data to be better suited to the document-centric environment of MongoDB.
  • The MongoDB to SQL Migration tools invert that process enabling the export of MongoDB document data into SQL appropriate tables and columns for reporting, replication or legacy processing.

SQL to MongoDB migration works with MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, IBM DB2 and Sybase.
