What’s New in Studio 3T 2019.2 | SQL to MongoDB Migration + Task Automation

Posted on: 21/03/2019 (last updated: 18/08/2021) by Kathryn Vargas

Studio 3T 2019.2 is the biggest release of Studio 3T to date, packing two time-saving features into one release, both never before available in the MongoDB tool space.

If you’re frequently migrating data from SQL to MongoDB, SQL Migration provides the most advanced import SQL to MongoDB functionality to date. It lets you export entire SQL databases or import multiple SQL tables to a single MongoDB collection, while allowing you to define exactly how table relationships (one-to-one, one-to-many) should be mapped to JSON documents.

Then there’s Tasks, which lets you schedule and automate frequent jobs  – like the above-mentioned SQL imports – making MongoDB workflows even more convenient, especially for teams.

Headline features

SQL Migration | Import entire SQL databases to MongoDB

Studio 3T users can now enjoy the most convenient import SQL to MongoDB functionality in any MongoDB GUI.

Other tools only let you import a single SQL table to a MongoDB collection, a highly inflexible approach especially when importing enterprise-size databases. Most also don’t offer flexible configuration options, leaving users with default mappings that lead to horror-inducing, post-import cleanup.

With SQL Migration, you can now import multiple SQL tables – whether from a single main table or many tables – into a single MongoDB collection. During the configuration process, you can define exactly how table relationships should be mapped to a JSON document and add/remove/reorder/rename fields, customize field types, define one-to-one or one-to-many relationships, and so on.

Before any import takes place, SQL Migration’s handy JSON preview shows you exactly how the target MongoDB documents will look like, for greater accuracy.

Watch a sneak peek of SQL Migration below, read the full press release here, or view the full SQL to MongoDB Migration documentation.

Tasks | Save time, automate MongoDB jobs

Forget configuring the same tasks over and over – Tasks lets you save, load, and run frequent MongoDB jobs on-demand, while the complementary Task Scheduler (Enterprise only) lets you schedule and unschedule them as needed at the times and on the days you specify.

Tasks currently support all types of import (JSON, CSV, SQL, BSON), SQL to MongoDB Migration, and Data Compare & Sync jobs.
